Pool Matrix Garden

This private poolside garden was designed and installed in 2022. The site was a former gravel pit, which had very dry, thin soil that drained sharply, in full sun. This type of condition has advantages and disadvantages. First, the hot, dry, thin soil does not hold much moisture, and requires plants that are deep rooted or are otherwise adapted to such conditions. On the bright side, weed competition is also limited. We selected native and non-native plants that would not only tolerate but thrive, such as Stachys ‘Hummelo’, Monarda bradburyana, Deschampsia cespitosa, as well as tall panicles of Panicum virgatum ‘Northwind.’
